 After reading both articles listed above, choose one and provide a
one-paragraph summary.
 Did you find the article persuasive? Be sure to use your
knowledge of Aristotle’s Rhetoric (logos, ethos, and pathos) to
analyze the article’s persuasive effectiveness. (2-3 paragraphs.)

 The Obligation to Endure, Rachel Carson, WAW, pp. 477-483.
 The Solution, Edward O. Wilson, WAW, pp. 508-521.
Moodle Assignment Due by 10pm on Sun, 10/8 (200-250 words):
Compose a critical response to one of the articles, in which you
disagree with some or all of its arguments. Be concise and
professional, and remember to consider Aristotle’s Rhetoric (logos,
ethos, and pathos) when critiquing the article.

Assignment Due in Class: One page typed research proposal for your first
Major Writing Assignment. Note: Please bring Hacker to class
*Library orientation (We will meet in room 1575 at 10am, first floor
classroom, behind the information-reference desk). Following the
orientation, you will begin organizing and outlining your rough draft.
Mon 10/16
Assignment Due in Class: Rough Draft (2-4 pages typed). Please bring
three copies to class.
Wed 10/18
Assignment Due in Class: Please bring 3 copies of your 2nd revision
(5-7 pages typed). *We will meet in Leadbetter-Phelps 1530 at
10am*
