Dear Staff Applicant: Thank you for your interest in applying for the position of Assistant Resident Advisor on Bradley University’s Residential Living Staff. We hope this information will help you through the Staff Selection process. All applications are due into Sisson 111 no later than 4:00 pm on March 4. Eligibility Requirements In order to be eligible to apply for an ARA position, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 and must be in good standing with the University. First semester freshman and first semester transfer students that do not have the cumulative GPA will be allowed to apply and go through the interview process, but must have the cumulative 2.50 GPA at the completion of their first semester in order to be hired. Staff Members must be in good conduct standing & student status at the time of application and during his/her employment. Good conduct standing means not being on active censure or a more severe sanction. Good student status means enrolled in classes with no encumbrances Interviews The Staff Selection process consists of two interviews. 1) An interview with 2-3 Hall Directors 2) A group interview activity Reference Form Included with the ARA application packet is a Reference Form. Please give this form to a current or previous employer and request they fill it out and return to the Residential Living Office in a sealed envelope. Resume We are requesting you submit a current resume with your application. The Smith Career Center can assist with any resume questions you may have. Your resume should include the following but is not limited to: Contact Information Include your name, ID number, campus address, cell phone, and email Education Include your major/minors, total credit hours completed, anticipated graduation date, and current GPA Employment History Include campus and other part-time jobs with details including name of employer, job title, dates of employment, and an overview of duties Honors and Activities Include campus as well as relevant high school activities, honors, or leadership positions Skills Include event planning, advertising, computer and other skills you think may be relevant to the ARA role References Include the names and the contact information of the references you will be using for this position Notification of Selection Because we do not make staff selection decisions until semester grades are received, the Staff Selection Committee will not be meeting for hiring decisions until mid-December. You will be notified of hiring by May 20, 2016. Roommate Preferences All ARAs will have a roommate. When hired at semester, you may be placed into a room that already has someone else living in it. Please realize that you will have to flexible with roommate preferences. Know Yourself As An ARA Applicant: Evaluate what you offer as an applicant in terms of your experiences, strengths and weaknesses including education, jobs, hobbies, clubs, residence hall activities, and personal aspirations. Residence Hall Staff and Financial Assistance: Bradley’s hall staff members receive credit for room or room and board in exchange for serving as an ARA or RA. The value of the remission must be considered as a resource for financial assistance purposes. However, the Office of Financial Assistance recognizes the time and commitment involved with being on staff and will try to accommodate the student as much as they can. Accepting a staff position does not jeopardize the student’s gift aid. If adjustments need to be made to stay within compliance of federal guidelines, loan or work, eligibility may be changed. We recommend that students considering staff positions stop in to see a financial aid advisor if they have any questions. Financial Aid is located in Swords Hall, Room 100.
