John Drugan School Oct. 26, 2015 SIT Minutes I. School Safety a. Safety is everybody’s responsibility. i. Be vigilantly aware of who is in the building. If you see someone in the hallway that is not wearing a visitor’s pass, please politely ask them to return to the front desk for a pass. ii. All faculty and staff must wear their school ID by Oct. 30th. iii. If you misplaced your ID, please see Leann Macias in the front office. iv. District Employees must wear their ID where it is visible for all to see. v. Able will speak to Maintenance Dept. and non-district employees working in the portables to ensure they are wearing their ID or a visitor’s pass. b. Shelter in Place Drill i. We held a Shelter in Place during Sgt. Carrasco Funeral Procession. Counselors helped launch Red Ribbon Week and covered classes during process. ii. Send students to the counselors who are having a difficult time coping with Sgt. Carrasco’s untimely death. iii. More information forthcoming on the RF ID stickers for all school employees. Employees will swipe their ID when they enter and leave the building. iv. In the near future, hourly personnel will use this system to clock in and out. v. Employees who bring their children to school need to educate their child/children on afterschool safety drills. Have a safe zone where they can go to in case you are out of your classroom. II. Campus Calendar Updates a. Drugan will have a Fall Festival on Nov. 13th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. See your SIT representative and Dana Zias for more information. The District Fall Benchmarks is scheduled for next week. Students should take approximately 2 hours to complete. Each test is approximately 20 questions. i. More information will be forthcoming as to how middle school will test. ii. Special Education teachers will test their own students to ensure testing accommodations are provided. SPED students particularly those with read aloud test and extra time may take more than one day to complete the test. iii. Mrs. Salas, testing coordinator, will send an email related to testing procedures for students who are in Section 504 and Speech only. III. Olweus Anti-Bullying Program a. Window for completing Olweus surveys is Nov. 9-12. b. Students will complete their surveys during Super School. c. Teachers must do Olweus lessons every Friday. These lessons should be approximately 20 minutes. Teachers are given the flexibility to add and/or revise the lessons to meet their classroom needs. IV. Campus Improvement Plan Update a. Reviewed Goal 4: Parent and Community Relationships i. SIT members reviewed the timelines, evidence of impact, and formative assessments to ensure we are implementing the strategies outlined in the CIP. Thus far, we have done Grandparent Day, MOMS Club, Parenting Classes, Dads and Donuts, Watch DOGS, Latino Families, teacher (weekly/bi-monthly) newsletters, updated bulletin boards to showcase student work and so forth. ii. We added the new District App. This technology application’s features include email, campus calendar, Tyler SIS, Lunch Box, etc. iii. Al Garcia sent Drugan faculty and staff an email with instructions on how to download app. iv. We will provide training for parents to become familiar with new app. v. We added Twitter to parent and community involvement. vi. Business mascots invited to Olweus Kick-Off. vii. SAMS and DR Horton presentations and donations. Krispy Kreme donated donuts for Dad and Donuts. DR Horton donated pizza for staff development at the beginning of the year. viii. Our Mothers of Magnificent Students or MOMS are have knitted beanies for children undergoing chemotherapy. They will have the latest software. b. New adapters to connect IWB and computer have arrived. Mari Licon, our technologist, will begin replacing your old computer with a new one. If you to keep your old computer you will need to set it up your classroom. VI. Concerns a. Fourth Grade brought a concern to SIT related to student graded work and how often it should be sent home. Question was asked if graded work be sent home weekly, bi-weekly, 3 weeks. b. Proposal was made that teachers should customize to parent needs or consider what research states on best practices which is at the minimum every other week.
