The proposed program will be conducted by the University of Arkansas Division of
Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service. Extension has a rich history which spans
nearly 100 years of educational work and making a difference in the lives of Arkansans.
Its mission is simply to adapt the research based knowledge that resides within the
University System and present it in a non-bias form that citizens can utilize to improve
their livelihood and the quality of their lives. Extension conducts its programming
through a network of local offices in each of Arkansas’ 75 counties.
County Extension Advisory Councils guide the local Extension staff by identifying their
most pressing educational needs and developing an annual education plan for the
county. Programs based on grassroots needs of local people and funded by county, as
well as state and federal appropriations in addition to sponsored programs, make the
Extension Service unique within the education community.
