If the Postdoctoral Fellow is excluded from the bargaining unit (i.e. if the
postdoc is to receive no pay through University sources, include the following

You will be appointed as an honorary postdoctoral fellow. This appointment
is outside of the bargaining unit, and is not governed by the collective
agreement between Memorial University and the Lecturers’ Union of
Memorial University (LUMUN), on behalf of Postdoctoral Fellows. We ask
that you review the University’s Policy on Postdoctoral Fellows, which is
available online at http://www.mun.ca/policy/site/policy.php?id=129
10. Eligibility for Group Benefits: If eligible for group benefits (i.e. if included from the bargaining unit and
meeting the eligibility requirements as per Article 32.01 of the collective
agreement) include the following text:
Membership in Memorial University’s group benefits plans is a condition of
employment. For enrolment in the benefits plans, please contact the
Department of Human Resources at 864-7406. If you are an international
postdoctoral fellow, membership in a provincial medical plan is required in
order to be eligible for group benefits.
If not eligible for group benefits (i.e. if excluded from the bargaining unit or
included but not meeting the eligibility requirements), include the following
text:
At this time, you are not eligible for participation in Memorial University’s
group benefits plans. Information on health information for international
postdoctoral fellows can be found at

If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, this appointment is subject to your obtaining the appropriate
work authorization to allow you to work in Canada. A representative from the Office of Faculty Relations will be in
