Degree Plans & Proposals Initial Degree Plan due at the end of the first long semester. Students should have Committee meeting within 2 months of beginning their graduate program At first Committee Meeting initial degree plan should be discussed and perhaps agreed on by Committee and student. Proposal or proposal outline due at the end of the second long semester. (defined by department) Graduate Advisor must assume responsibility for ensuring that these deadlines are met. Send an e-copy of the Degree Plan and the signature page of the Proposal to your Department Chairman. Chairs will send them all to me and I will maintain a file for each student. Thesis & Research Hours Graduate students can only complete 6 hrs of Thesis (5306). 3 hrs while working on proposal. 3 hrs while working on thesis. Graduate students enroll in Research hrs (5399) while doing fieldwork or research. During long semesters full time is 9 hrs. During summer students must take 3 hrs of course work each summer session if they are on a stipend. If students begin research project during the summer and start fieldwork immediately, they must take at least 1 class that results in a letter grade in order to establish a GPA.
