1
Purpose
• The TGm work plan covers the present work items adequately but
does not address the following:
– System Description Document (SDD) development process and
timelines
– Keeps the call for proposals open only for 2 meetings which could be
considered too short
– Needs to add slight updates to the ITU schedule since Cameroon
– Also establish clarity between the schedule for the SDD, IMT-Advanced
proposal and 802.16m amendment development
• We propose updates to address the above issues
• This contribution also consolidates inputs from TGm contributions
110 and 112r1 in Session #49 and updates from Kyoto ITU-R #22
WP8F meetings.
2
Motivation
The updates proposed consider the following aspects:
• The System Description Document (SDD) can help establish a
system view and architecture for the 802.16m air interface and is
important to develop, but at the same time it should not delay the
802.16m draft development
• The SDD will also help us develop the initial IMT-Advanced
proposals based on the architecture and technical concepts adopted
• SDD should help decide about the core technical components and
some decisions may have to be made during the amendment
development.
• Balance can be established by making sure critical design issues
are addressed during SDD development
• Partial overlap of the work items help us move forward faster and
while interdependencies may not be avoided, they can be managed
through careful planning and execution

Proposed Updates to 802.16m-07/001
• On page 2, titled “Documents to be developed in TGm”, we
proposed adding the work item
– System Description Document (SDD)
• Architecture and design of the 802.16m Air interface amendment
• Captures the core technical concepts behind the features included in the
amendment
• Will enable analysis and/or simulations for characterizing the coarse level
performance benefits of the air interface in association with the Evaluation
Methodology
• Instead of slides 3,4 and 5 adopt the following slide 5
– To avoid too many work plan (802.16m-07/001) updates it is better to
keep it high level. So suggest not to keep slides 3 and 4. Decisions can
be taken by TGm appropriately at each meeting depending on the
development status at the time.
– Have reflected latest ITU schedule updates from Kyoto
