Example of DL Super-frame Header
• SCH for initial network acquisition, with fixed CP
length to minimize blind detection
Subframe
OFDM Symbol
– PSC for timing and frequency correction
• Possible for SFN transmission within network
– SSC for Cell_ID
PSC
SSC
PBCH
• P-BCH for network-wide common and static
parameters such as bandwidth, CP length,
superframe index, TDD ratio
– Possible for SFN transmission within
network
SBCH/QPCH
• S-BCH for sector-specific parameters such as
antenna setting, power setting, control zone
setting, resource allocation setting, System
Information message setting, 16e/16m
ratio/offset, H-FDD setting, etc.
– Sufficient to allow MS to decode the DL data
channels
Frequency
• QPCH for quick paging messages
– Possible with SFN transmission within
QPCH zone

Data Mini-frame Control Information
• The control information relating to the data traffic in each
data Mini-frame includes
– Scheduling grant message for DL/UL resource allocation
– System acquisition grant message for fast response to random
access attempts
– UL power control bits
– ACK/NACK bits for UL data channel HARQ
• We provide more details of two control structures of the
data mini-frame in contributions IEEE C80216m-08/211
and IEEE C80216m-08/212, respectively.

Example of Control Messages Carried on
Data Channels
• Common/broadcast control messages
– using fixed periodical broadcasting without a dynamic
scheduling grant message; and/or using a dynamic
allocation of a data channel that is identified with a
common MACID in the scheduling grant message
– for example, additional downlink system parameter
messages, uplink system parameter messages, full
paging messages, etc.
• User-specific control messages
– Identified with user-specific MACID

Text Proposal
Insert the following text into Physical Layer sub-clause (C802.16m-08/003)
11.X Downlink Control Information Hierarchy
11.X.1 Super-frame header
The Super-frame Header shall provides:
• Synch signals for timing and frequency correction
• Cell_ID
• network-wide common parameters, e.g. bandwidth, CP length, superframe index,
TDD ratio, etc.
–
•
sector-specific system parameters that are sufficient for the MS to decode the DL
data channels, e.g. antenna setting, power setting, control zone setting, resource
allocation setting, System Information message setting, 16e/16m ratio/offset, H-FDD
setting, etc.
–
•
with SFN transmission within the network
Additional DL system parameters and UL system parameters are broadcasted in System
Information message using the data channels
quick paging messages, possibly with SFN transmission within the quick paging zone
–
Full paging message transmitted using the data channels, possibly with SFN transmission
within the paging zone

Text Proposal
Insert the following text into Physical Layer sub-clause:
11.X.2 Data Mini-frame Control Information
The control information relating to the data traffic in each data Mini-frame includes:
• Scheduling grant message for DL/UL resource allocation
• System acquisition grant message for fast response to random access attempts
• UL power control bits
• ACK/NACK bits for UL data channel HARQ
11.X.3 Control Messages Carried on the Data Channel
Additional downlink and uplink system parameter messages and full paging messages
can be carried on the data channel using fixed periodical broadcasting without a
dynamic scheduling grant message; and/or using a dynamic allocation of a data
channel that is identified with a common MACID in the scheduling grant message.
User-specific control messages can also be carried on the data channels using userspecific MACID.
