Proposal for TGm SDD Call for Proposal Topics Schedule Document Number: IEEE C802.16m-08/256r1 Date Submitted: 2008-03-20 Source: Jose Puthenkulam (jose.p.puthenkulam@intel.com), Sassan Ahmadi (sassan.ahmadi@intel.com) Intel Corporation Hokyu Choi (choihk@samsung.com), Heewon Kang (hkang@samsung.com) Samsung Electronics Venue: IEEE 802.16 Session #54, Orlando, FL Base Document: None Purpose: To enable TGm to decide when proposals for various topics could be invited and also to enable contributors to know how much time they have to develop their proposal contributions. In addition to to enable completion of the SDD in a reasonable time Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE 802.16. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE 802.16. IEEE 802.16 Patent Policy: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802.16 Patent Policy and Procedures <http://ieee802.org/16/ipr/patents/policy.html>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <mailto:chair@wirelessman.org> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.16 Working Group. The Chair will disclose this notification via the IEEE 802.16 web site <http://ieee802.org/16/ipr/patents/notices>. Motivation • Presently TGm SDD call for proposal topics are decided each meeting. • However knowing upfront which meeting, a certain topic is going to come up helps contributors to develop their material with better planning. • While the granularity of topics can still subjective, if they are high level enough it will still help contributors develop their proposals appropriately. • Also presently the TGm Work Plan (07/001r1) conceives completion of the SDD by Jul’08. We believe given current status of our development, most likely this would need to be updated to Nov’08. Hence we propose a SDD call for proposal topics schedule for TGm with this anticipated update 2 Proposal for TGm SDD CFP Schedule IEEE Meetings Schedule Suggested Main Topics for new material for TGm SDD for each IEEE meeting January 2008 Frame Structure, Multiple Access Schemes March 2008 DL Symbol Structure, Pilots, Resource Allocation DL control channel design May 2008 UL Symbol Structure, Pilots, Resource Allocation, UL control channel design, DL MIMO Schemes, HARQ July 2008 Ranging, DL synchronization, UL MIMO Schemes, Link adaptation schemes, DL Interference Mitigation Upper-MAC Concepts (Mobility and power management) MAC and PHY specific topics to discussed in parallel September 2008 Relay, MBS, LBS, Security, Multi-Radio Coexistence (Begin baseline stage 3 document) Deadline for new proposals November 2008 SDD Clarifications/Comments Only for clarification and correction Notes Note: SDD [Stage 2] contributions should include only system architecture and concepts. Implementation details are in the scope of the amendment [Stage 3]. 3 Backup • The following slide is presented for information only. • We propose updating the Work Plan in the July session after ITU-R meeting in June. 4 Updates Needed to TGm Schedule Q2 IEEE 802.16 System Requirements IEEE 802.16m Evaluation Methodology System Description IMT Advanced Proposal 2007 Q3 Q4 Q1 2008 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q1 Q2 2009 Q3 Q4 2010 Q2 Q3 Q1 Q4 Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec First Call for Proposals for SDD issued in Sept ‘07 Sep ’07* Jan’08* Nov ’07 First Call for Proposals for 802.16m Text issued in Jul ‘08 Nov 08* ITU based Updates Jan ’09 Sept ’09* Initial P. 802.16m AmendmentŦ Final Proposal Sep ’08 Mar ’09 Sep ’09 Letter Ballot Working Doc Refinements Mar ’10 Sponsor Ballot ITU-R IMT Advanced Jun ’08 IMT.TECH Jun ’08 Circular Letter ITU based Updates Jun ’08 IMT.EVAL Jan’09 Oct ’09 Proposal Submission Jun ’10 IMT.RADIO Proposal Evaluation & Consensus Building Develop Recommendation ITU-R WP5D Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec *System Requirements and Evaluation Methodology, System Description, IMT-Advanced Proposal Documents may be further updated based on ITU output (shown by dotted lines).
