Motivation
• Most of the pilot designs in the DL PHY
rapporteur group focus on the single-BS
transmission. It should be extended to multi-BS
MIMO, if multi-BS MIMO shows significant
benefits.
• This contribution provides a solution to support
multi-BS MIMO.
Proposed solutions
• Flexible pilot pattern with configurable pilot
reuse factor
– Through configurable pilot reuse factor, adjacent
configured number of BSs can transmit orthogonal
pilot signals, thus enabling MS to estimate the
channels between each BS and the MS.
– The configurable pilot reuse factor information can
be incorporated into the relevant transmission zone
definition signaling.

The concept of pilot reuse factors can be
adapted to other pilot patterns straightforwardly.
Text Proposal
11.5.3 Pilot structure
[supplement one sentence after the existing content
about pilot structure as follows]
The pilot patterns shall be extended to support
multi-BS MIMO through orthogonal pilot
multiplexing among the involved BSs.
