Handoff Procedure in the 802.16m Femto Cell Environments • Femto Cell Environments – Large number of Femto BS in a single macro BS – Long list of neighboring Femto BS • Expected Problems – the long list requires wasteful wireless resources – it takes long time to scan all the neighboring femto BSs We provide a remedy for the problems. Proposed Remedy • Reduced List of Neighboring Femto BS • Procedures – (1) BS estimates the locations of Mobile Stations. – (2) BS prepares and broadcasts neighboring femto BS messages generated by the estimation. – (3) BS can allow a group of MSs to scan neighboring femto BS simultaneously. – (4) BS can limit the number of femto BS in neighboring femto BS message. – (5) BS can unicast a list of femto BSs, which are not included in broadcast neighboring femto BS message. Proposed SDD Text A macro BS shall broadcast neighbor advertisement message including femto cell information, which is used for MSs to scan neighboring femto BSs as well as neighboring macro BSs. It is possible that the femto cell information is collected from handoff history and femto cells' reports. It can also be configured manually. A macro BS can append or remove the femto cell information depending on MSs' measurement results over neighboring macro BSs in order to provide optimal neighbor advertisement message. Thank You
