CODE OF ETHICS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT BOARD OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH The Code of Ethics of the Student Government Board of the University of Pittsburgh exists in order to define the expectations of the elected and appointed members of SGB while ensuring proper accountability to the student community. This document shall be a set of voluntarily- binding guidelines that serve to reduce any and all ambiguity relating to the obligations of these elected and appointed positions. Therefore, it is the obligation of each member of Student Government Board to: •…represent all undergraduate non-CGS students, regardless of their campaign affiliations. •…represent the students in a professional manner while working with the University administration. •…respect the duties and the responsibilities of the President as the elected chair and spokesperson of the Board. •…respect the duties and responsibilities of the Board Members as the elected representatives and advocates of the student community. •…respect the autonomy and authority of all standing committee Chairs and members, ad-hoc committee Chairs and members, and task forces, recognizing their relationship as functioning peers rather than subordinates of the elected Board. •…collaborate and inform the President and Board on all projects, and assist fellow members in their work relating to Student Government Board whenever possible. •…be knowledgeable and objective in the allocation of the Student Activities Fee, excusing oneself when the ability to remain objective is called into question. •…practice and promote the concept of mutual respect for all fellow members of Student Government Board.
