Dedicate Resource for Direct Communication
– C802.16n-11/0072: PHY Control Structure
– C802.16n-11/0073: MAC Control Operations
Channel Structure of Talk-around DC
• Synchronization Channel
– Synchronization among HR-MSs.
– The HR-MSs within the BS coverage provide
synchronization to the HR-MSs out of the BS coverage.
• Contention Channel
– The HR-MSs exchange packets including resource sharing
information with random access.
• Dedicated Channel
– The HR-MSs with resource information of dedicated
channel exchange packets on the dedicated channel.
Synchronization Channel
• This channel provides synchronization among HR-MSs
– Fixed position and fixed size resources.
– Synchronization packets (preamble + ID) are transmitted
with distributed transmission scheduling.
• The HR-MS decides to transmit the synchronization
packet by itself.
– Preamble time of BS is propagated to the HR-MSs out of the
service coverage.
• Synchronization hop counter

Contention Channel
• The channel provides random access and
transmission of a fixed size packet. There are several
slots parallel to each other.
• Content fields in the fixed size packet.
– Source ID
– Destination ID
• Unicast STID for unicast transmission
• Group multicast ID for multicast transmission
– Resource identification of a dedicated channel for
closed users.
Dedicated Channel
• The HR-MSs share resource information.
– An HR-MS send a packet on the dedicated channel and the
other MSs receive the packet.
– Unicast transmission or multicast transmission.
• The resource of a dedicated channel repeats every
superframe (20ms).
– Circuit style resource usage to reduce control overhead.
– Voice packets with a period of 20ms.
• The resource management and PTT operation are done
by management packets.
– No control and feedback channels are defined additionally.
Dedicated Channel
• To provide both narrowband and broadband signal
transmissions
– Narrowband signal on 1/6 PRU resource for voice traffic
– High-data rate over multiple 1/6 PRU resources
Proposed text for 16n AWD

talk-around direct communication from PPDR
application
