Introduction
• Section 6.1.1 of 802.16n SRD:
– “Ability to dynamically change roles shall be included as defined in this
clause.”
– “6.1.1.1 Relay function for HR-BS”
– “6.1.1.2 Relay function for HR-MS (RS Mode)”
– “6.1.1.3 Base Station function for HR-MS (BS Mode)”
• Mode changes are temporary
• Resume original mode when disruption is repaired.
• Resource and time consuming using regular network entry
• Scanning and determining physical channel parameters.
• Likely to have several stations joining simultaneously.
• High contention
• Wasted bandwidth
• High latency

• Stored Information from previous mode
• PHY channel parameters (channel, frequency, …)
• Accelerates PHY scanning, DL and UL synchronization
