Motivation
• Nearby HR-MSs communicate directly by talk-around
direct communication.
– A TDC link provides a MAC connectivity between HR-MSs
– No network function is engaged in TDC=> No backbone
connection of HR-BS is required.
– But, the service coverage of TDC is the range of signal
transmitted by HR-MS.
• How to extend the coverage of TDC?
– HR-BS can provide a MAC connection without
network function even in standalone operation.
Standalone Operation
• An HR-BS provides an MAC connection to HR-MS only
without its connection to backbone network
– Network entities including DHCP server, AAA server, PTT server,
application servers, etc. are not available.
– New MAC connection for infrastructure communication is not
established without network entities interaction.
• But, service flows and connections that has been established using
backbone connection can be served using MAC local forwarding function
after losing backbone connection as SPOF.
• New MAC connections only can be established during
standalone operation if they uses MAC/PHY functions only.
Extension of TDC via HR-BS
• TDC MAC connection over MAC connection of infrastructure
communication
– An HR-BS serves two HR-MS with MAC connections for
infrastructure communication. It receives packets from a HR-MS and
send them to other HR-MS.
– Using this MAC connectivity, Two HR-MSs exchange TDC MAC
PDUs as SDU of MAC layer.

Extension of TDC via HR-BS
• Backbone connection status advertisement
– An HR-BS operating as standalone network broadcasts status of
backbone connectivity using AAI-MM-ADV message
– All the HR-MSs within the service coverage receive it
• MAC connection establishment using AAI-DSAREQ/RSP/ACK messages
– DCTID or DCGID is used to identify an HR-MS or a group of HRMSs at establishment of MAC connection.

Extension of TDC via HR-BS
• Blind paging using AAI-SA-BPAG-ADV message
– But an HR-BS has no information of mapping DCTID or DCGID to an
HR-MS or a group of HR-MSs.
– DCTID or DCGID in AAI-SA-BPAG-ADV message
– If the HR-MS is connected,
• AAI-SA-BPAG-ACK in response
– If the HR-MS is idle
• Network re-entry procedure in response
– And HR-BS initiated DSA procedure
• AAI-DSA-REQ/RSP/ACK
