IEEE C802.16/0012 IEEE 802 LMSC REQUEST TO SCHEDULE A CFI TUTORIAL SPONSOR (WG Chair): Roger B. Marks DATE SUBMITTED: Jan 14th , 2010 Requester Name & Email: Shilpa Talwar (shilpa.talwar@intel.com) 1. TITLE OF TUTORIAL: Possibilities Future Wireless Broadband Networks: Challenges and 2. NAME OF PRESENTERS, THEIR AFFLIATIONS AND CONTACT INFO (Optional): Presenter(s) Name: To be determined 3. ABSTRACT: Affiliation: Email Address: (a brief paragraph describing content of the Call for Interest) The exponential growth in mobile traffic with introduction of broadband devices, such as smart phones and notebooks are straining the capacity of networks today. Some projections indicate 66-fold increase in mobile traffic from 2008 to 2013. Network providers face the challenge of meeting this capacity demand with relatively flat revenues per bit. Disruptive innovations in mobile broadband system design will therefore be required to deliver the projected capacity demand cost-effectively. Service providers will also need to offer new or enhanced services to deliver the growth in revenue needed to maintain profitability. In this call for interest tutorial, we identify potential requirements for future wireless networks, and propose promising technologies to address these requirements. Example technologies high lighted include heterogeneous multi-tier network architectures, advanced multi-antenna techniques, and network innovations for enabling services such as machine-to-machine communications. We expect this call for interest tutorial to motivate planning for evolution of 802.16. 4. WG CHAIR ASSESSMENT OF BREADTH OF INTEREST IN THIS CFI: [x] General [ ] Multi WG: [x]Requesting WG 5.
