Procedure Components
The component toolbar consists of 18 different components that can be included within a
procedure.
You can include any meaningful combination of these components within a procedure.
See handout R7 for Order of Components.

DS Reference R22
Enables you to create a tabular representation of data retrieved from a
data source. The Report Painter can be accessed from this component to
create reports.
Assists you with SQL pass thru, which allows you to execute SQL code
that retrieves data from an RDBMS. You can use the resulting extract
file in the Report Painter or the Graph Assistant.
Enables you to create temporary (virtual) fields that do not exist in the
database. These temporary fields can then be used when creating reports
or graphs. The Define tool can be used to create these temporary fields.
Creates a simple graphical representation of data retrieved from a data
source. A graphical tool, Graph Assistant, can be accessed from this
component to build graphs.
Creates a sophisticated graphical representation of the data retrieved
from a data source. A graphical tool, Advanced Graph Assistant, can be
accessed from this component to build graphs.
Enables you to customize the value of various environmental
parameters. A graphical Set tool can be accessed from this component to
change these environmental settings.
Defines a relationship between two or more data sources so that the
virtual, combined data can be used to create reports and graphs. A
graphical Join tool can be accessed from this component to establish
relationships between data sources.
Can only be used with FOCUS data sources, specifies read-only access
to a data source, treats multiple data sources as one, or indicates the use
of data sources that are not stored in the directory path assigned to the
procedure shell.
Assigns a logical name to a physical file name and specifies file
attributes such as file type and location to WebFOCUS. Typical uses
include identifying the non-default locations for data sources for
WebFOCUS to read as input, and redirecting the destination of output
files (such as the location of HOLD files generated by WebFOCUS_
Gives the ability to have one procedure call and execute another
complete procedure. You can choose a procedure to be called from
inside the calling procedure.
Allows procedure fragments that are stored as separate procedures to be
incorporated into a calling procedure. This enables modular
programming, making your application easier to write and maintain.

DS Reference R22
Sends the report output generated by a WebFOCUS procedure to an
existing Web page that displays in the browser (-HTMLFORM
webpage). The output can also be saved as an HTML file that can be
displayed later.
Can be used to type commands for documentation, or source code that
does not have a graphical tool, or for any kid of manual coding. When
used to enter source code manually, the Other component automatically
converts the typed text to the corresponding component type.
Creates an OLAP hierarchy and dimensions based on data for multidimensional analysis without changing the Master File. Dimensions and
measures are key components of the OLAP tool.
Allows you to code the SQL Passthru and highlights any SQL
commands within the code. This component supports you typing any
SQL commands and allows coding to any RDBMS engine.
Allows you to merge two or more data sources into an extract file
(HOLD file) by comparing sort fields. This component launches the
Match Wizard. In addition to specifying the desired records and
columns, the merged data can be based on the seven possible
relationships between files.
Enables you to enter ENGINE SET commands or connection attributes,
and override parameters. Note: The engine tool is only used to create
ENGINE statements. You are responsible for having the knowledge of
the ENGINE SET command or the connection Attribute needed.
The scripting element of the WebFOCUS language that controls the
execution of the components of a procedure or application. The
Dialogue Manager component provides links to wizards for generating
the popular Dialogue Manager commands for branching and controlling
the process flow.
