PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY 2004 – Present ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR – COMPUTER SCIENCE Teach a variety of Computer Science courses including C++, Software Applications, Data Base Design, Operating Systems, Data Mining, Systems Analysis and the full Cisco CCNA Networking Academy curriculum. Have taught fifteen courses over sixteen semesters and hold the Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate) certification. Fully active in four service related programs in support of the Computer Science Division, the College of Professional Studies and the St. John's Law School. TIAA-CREF 1992 - 2003 NATIONAL DIRECTOR APPLICATIONS & TECHNICAL SUPPORT (2000 – 2003) Managed web-based and client/server projects in support of the Sales Force including Sales Leads, Goals, CRM and Event Scheduling. Development environment included Oracle, SQL, MS Access, the MS Suite and Visual Basic. Responsibilities included the planning, specification, acquisition and implementation of all related Information Technology hardware and software, tools and services for fifteen hundred associates in the Sales area of the company. Managed the image definition, planning, testing and rollout of all software images for the area. Also was responsible for the provision of ad-hoc and regularly scheduled reports generated in BI Query, M/S Access and Visual BASIC with access to five different data models. Managed a staff of thirty-seven associates dispersed across the nation, a five and a half million-dollar expense budget and a three million dollar capital budget. SR. PROJECT MANAGER (1992 – 1999) Managed a new development Long Term Disability Client/Server project (AS/400 and Novell LAN) consisting of nine IS team members and eight consultants. Utilized Information Engineering practices and tools (ADW for the upper case and SYNON for the lower case) to specify, design and develop the application. Supplemented IE and Client/Server techniques with traditional life cycle methodologies and prototyping. Overall project budget was in excess of four million dollars. Also managed the implementation and maintenance of a Long Term Care Client/Server project. NATIONAL BENEFIT LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY (Sub. of Citicorp) 1985 - 1991 VICE PRESIDENT/MIS (1989 – 1991) Managed the MIS department consisting of twenty-one professionals including applications development, computer operations and production/technical support groups. Full responsibility for all MIS functions including strategic and business planning with user community, technical planning, staffing, applications development, remote site computer operations and budget control. Reduced MIS budget from 4.5 to 3 million dollars annually while improving service levels through local PC distribution of corporate mainframe data and by the downsizing of additional mainframe applications to a local LAN. ASST VICE PRESIDENT/DIRECTOR APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT (1987 – 1988) Managed all applications development, enhancements and maintenance as well as micromainframe links and LANs. Projects included claims, new business, reinsurance, renewals, billing and commissions. Technical environment included CICS, Datacom DBMS, COBOL, and Assembler. PROJECT MANAGER (1985 – 1987) Managed three application development projects as well as the database function consisting of eighteen IS professionals. BANKERS TRUST COMPANY 1977 - 1985 ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT/GROUP PROJECT MANAGER (1980 – 1985) Managed a group of twelve IT analysts and programmers for the specification, design and development of Personal Trust/Wealth Management systems, utilizing CICS and IMS, including: Performance Measurement System to measure the growth of a client's portfolio in comparison to standard indices. Automatic Cash Management, Bond Trading and Customer Statements. TECHNICAL TRAINING MANAGER (1978 – 1979) Developed and managed the Technical Training Center supporting the eight hundred member corporate MIS department. Budget responsibility was for two and a half million dollars. Developed and administered all technical training courses for both IBM mainframe and DEC mini-computer environments. Hired and trained one hundred and thirty-two entry-level programmers in a highly successful program. Developed a critically important Project Management program and also provided user training in PC technology and 4GL's. QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER (1977 – 1978) Joined this group as an internal consultant responsible for the quality assurance function of all Trust projects. Actively participated in all phases of the Systems Development Life Cycle to assist project managers with the development of project plans, business specifications, design, development, testing and implementation of large scale mainframe and minicomputer applications. Promoted to Manager of this group. MANUFACTURERS HANOVER TRUST COMPANY 1973 - 1977 PROJECT MANAGER AND QA MANAGER Managed an applications development group of twelve IT developers for the original development and subsequent maintenance phase of a Personal Trust system which supported the high wealth customer business unit. Had joined the QA group upon employment and advanced to manage that group. MERRILL LYNCH/PIERCE, FENNER AND SMITH 1970 - 1973 PROJECT LEADER, SYSTEMS ANALYST AND DESIGNER Led projects to develop and install Merrill’s first Security Master File as well as an on-line back office Securities Movement & Control system.
