Detailed Mentorship Strategies:
A high-quality, faculty-mentored student research experience should result in students improving
their basic research-related skills in order to be a productive researcher not only in the current
project, but in future projects. A successful applicant will have a well-developed and wellarticulated plan to help students gain and improve these skills.
For each of the Student Learning Outcomes below, describe the specific strategies that you, as
the faculty mentor, will employ to help the student become proficient in the following researchrelated skills. It is important to realize that these student learning objectives do not apply to just
the current project. Rather, they apply to the general abilities that the student will have upon
completion of the current project (abilities they can apply in their future). Please limit each to
100 words.
 Identify an original research question or problem (i.e. what will you do to help the
student learn how to identify new research questions)
