WEATHER & CLIMATE
Climate Change
• Logan County’s weather can be monitored from an
advanced weather station that is located in Russellville
called Kentucky Mesonet.
• In the past 100 years, Kentucky’s temperatures have
stayed relatively constant, but yearly precipitation has
increased 2.5 inches.
• Long range weather projections suggest that Kentucky’s
climate will begin to experience more extreme conditions.
• Heat waves, droughts, and floods in Kentucky will be more
drastic in the future.

suitable for agricultural, and allow some potential for
renewable energy.
• Majority of soils in the county are well suited for
agricultural purposes.
• Implications associated with the karst landscape of
Logan County include possible groundwater
contamination from agricultural runoff.
• Sinkhole protection is important to ensure the safety of
drinking water supplies.

What did we learn from this?
• Logan County relies on a variety of non-renewable resources
produced in other counties
• Proximity to public services affects public health, safety, and
welfare
CULTURE
• There is a heavy economic dependence on manufacturing
• There is an ever increasing demand for food, intensifying
agriculture, and increased demand for fuel
• Infrastructure is aging, suggesting inefficiencies
