Teri will talk with Ingrid Eschholz, Pat McTee, and Deanna Geldens – and get back to us. Introductions: Jeff Parker introduced Melody West and Mary Beacom who are the new risk managers for UC Denver. They described their roles and offered to help with a variety of issues including training, safety, crisis management and loss. Calendar Items: No calendar items were presented. Updates: No updates were presented. Discussion Items: 1. Spring Break Service Experience for Students and New Direction of the Research and Creative Activities Symposium (handout): Lissa distributed a flyer describing a Spring Break opportunity for 28 students to travel to Amarillo, TX, to work with Habitat for Humanity. Vice Chancellor Dick Traystman announced plans for a Research Day on April 24, 2009, downtown campus. Main points included: o There will be two Research Days in the future – one in the fall and one in the spring – alternating on downtown and AMC campuses. o K-12 students, UC Denver students, post docs, fellows and faculty will be invited to submit proposals for presentations. o A committee, with representatives from both campuses, is meeting to discuss logistics, speakers, marketing, and other issues. o 100 abstracts (posters) from each campus will be featured. o A high-level speaker will be invited to give a keynote address. Questions and suggestions: o How can we continue our traditional focus on undergraduate research? o We need to include creative works among the presentations. o The “call” needs to include language that will encourage multi-media presentations. o Don’t include faculty as sole presenters; to keep the focus on students. o UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) needs to be integrated into Research Day. o Former Research Day committee members should be on the current committee, for the sake of continuity. Next Steps: Dick will keep us updated as plans continue to be developed. Also, he asked for our help in soliciting abstracts. Send ideas to Dick by email. 2. Progress of Web Development Project: Steve Krizman and Jeremy Fulbright presented the newly released home page for UC Denver: http://beta.ucdenver.edu This page is not yet open to the public. Jeremy explained the purposes and main characteristics of the test page: It is focused on end-users’ needs. It is primarily aimed at recruitment of faculty, staff and students. It is a tool for engaging with the public and alumni. It needs to provide good service to both internal and external audiences. Navigation is key to helping users find what they need on the new website. It needs to be sustainable and able to be continuously improved. Its theme is telling our story, and the hope is to pull users deeper into the site. It will promote UC Denver with audio and video. Its features will be based on the amount of traffic going to various places on the site. The group had questions for Jeremy and Steve. How do internal users get to policies and forms? How are patients going to use the site? Will the student portal be available on the home page? Will the search engine have meta-tags for easier searches? Where will the catalog link appear? Where will the Auraria Library and Health Sciences Library be found? Where is the feedback link? (It is on the secondary pages, but will be moved to the front page soon.) Next Steps: Steve asked that the AD/ASG review the site and provide feedback by December 16th. 3. Rooming Issues in the New Science Building (handout): Daniel distributed a memo describing the work of the Classroom Allocation Committee (CAC) on allocation of classrooms among UC Denver, Metro, and CCD. He described the rooming allocation methodology and the tentative classroom allocation plans for the new Science Building. Next Steps: Frank will ask the Provost about expanding UC Denver’s leadership representatives on the CAC. Information Items: 2009 Faculty Awards Criteria (attachments)
