Will Algeria consider ratifying the Second Optional Protocol to the
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights?

Will Algeria consider ratifying the Optional Protocol to the Convention
on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women?

Ireland welcomes Algeria’s decision to end the state of emergency on
February 24th 2011. Will Algeria give consideration to amending laws
governing freedom of assembly to bring them into line with
international standards?

Will Algeria give consideration to amending its laws on divorce to give
equal treatment to men and women?
NETHERLANDS
 Freedom of expression/ Human rights defenders
The Netherlands would like to commend the Algerian government on its commitment
towards political reform and the adoption of new legislation on information/
expression and association. However, restrictions in relation to freedom of assembly
and freedom of expression and association remain (see A/HRC/WG.6/13/DZA/3, par.
18-23). To what extent does the Algerian Government consider further improvements
in these areas?
 Women’s rights
The Netherlands welcomes political reforms which are to ensure greater participation
of women in political decision making processes. In which way however, does
Algeria intend to further improve the position of women as enshrined in the Algerian
Constitution and family law, granting same rights to both genders in cases of divorce
and inheritance?
 LGBT
With regard to equality and non-discrimination, the Netherlands welcomes the
commitment of Algeria in several areas as outlined in the National Report. The
Netherlands would like to know which steps the Algerian Government intends to take
in order to ensure non-discrimination on all grounds including sexual orientation, and
ensuring the right to privacy of all its citizens?

What steps has Algeria taken to adopt a legal framework to protect
children from trafficking?
Does Algeria consider of becoming a State Party to the OPCAT?
SWEDEN

Sweden would like to commend the Government of Algeria for inviting seven
UN Special Rapporteurs whereof five visited Algeria during 2011. It must be
noted, however, that the Special Rapporteur on torture was not one of them.
Could the Government of Algeria consider extending an invitation to the
Special Rapporteur on torture to visit Algeria in the near future?

Sweden finds it encouraging that the Government of Algeria has adopted a
National Strategy for combating violence against women, including a plan of
communication. However, no funding has of today been allocated for the
execution of the strategy, and civil society organisations have reported that
women in Algeria continue to face widespread domestic violence in addition
to legal and social discriminations. Could the government of Algeria elaborate
on what measures it is considering to strengthen existing efforts to combat
violence against women?
