Set the tone for the day. Define the expectations, and let the participants know how to participate.
Also explain the question box. Students will have an opportunity to ask anonymous questions about the
university throughout the day. Staff will research the questions and provide answers throughout the day

Transition Tips—What are good methods for an effective leadership transition? What information
should be exchanged during a transition? Who should be involved in a leadership transition? How can
OrgSync be utilized during the transition period? This presentation will focus on key elements to an
effective transition plan.

Top 10 Student Issues—
Each Spring, since the inaugural Star Summit for Student Leadership in 2003, student leaders have
participated in developing a list of “Top Ten” action items for the purpose of informing SGA and
university administration of action items of most interest to students. The methodology of developing
the “Top Ten” has evolved over the years, but the purpose has remained constant.
This year Beatrize will begin this portion of the event by discussing last year’s “Top Ten” and progress
made on the top ten issues by SGA and the Administration.

Calendar Planning—
Student organizations will have an opportunity to select dates for their organization’s events during the
2014-2015 academic year. Students will negotiate event dates, recognize potential conflicts, and
effectively plan for the coming academic year.

2014 OCU Undergraduate Top Ten

The 2014 OCU Undergraduate Top Ten is a product of the Star Summit for Student Leadership, an
annual planning event that brings together student leaders from across the campus for the purpose of
building community, coordinating the student activity calendar for the coming academic year and to
identify issues of campus improvement.
Top Ten Methodology:
In the weeks prior to the Star Summit for Student Leadership, raw data from the 2013 Student
Satisfaction Survey were forwarded to student leaders who were invited to review the information in
preparation for developing a list of top ten student issues. At the Star Summit, student leaders
participated in a brainstorming session followed by a consensus building exercise. The following
problem statements were introduced at the event. The bolded statements comprise the “top ten.”
Ann Lacy School of Dance
Student attendance policy is unfair, specifically for funerals and weddings.
Campus Recreation/Intramurals
Increase the variety of programming offered through intramural sports.
The Aduddell Fitness Center is too small – increase available space and equipment for
personal fitness.
Increase publicity for intramural sports.
Campus Technology
Increase Wi-Fi speed and accessibility.
Dining Services
Adjust all meal plans to allow the user to swipe the card multiple times per meal.
Provide the yogurt bar at all meals in the cafeteria.
Provide more transparency with Alvin’s pricing.
Alvin’s food items are too expensive.
Increase number of items on the Alvin’s dollar menu.
The cafeteria needs more vegan/gluten-free options.
Increase cafeteria hours.
Open Alvin’s on the weekends.
Increase meal options in the cafeteria on the weekends.
To-Go line is often unavailable. The refrigerator is broken frequently and there are not enough
food options.
Facilities
Improve the quality of water, particularly in Panhellenic Quad and the residence halls.
Decrease the amount time to complete facility work-orders in the residence halls.
Clean the practice rooms in Bass more thoroughly and frequently.
Elevators are not very reliable/frequently out-of-order.
Long term maintenance in dorms is not being addressed sufficiently.
OCUPD/Parking
Revise parking permit structure to include a permit that, for an increased price, will allow the
holder to park anywhere on-campus that is legally allowed.
Parking and driving areas in Cokesbury are too small and can be dangerous.
Need to clarify and ensure that all officers are aware of parking policies.
Residence Life
Resident Assistants have too much responsibility, specifically the RA/resident relationship needs
to be clarified. There needs to be more communication about the expectations of residents.
Housing draft is stressful and unorganized.
Student Accounts
Reinstate processes in Student Accounts that support the billing and collection of campus
organization dues and fraternity house rents.
Student Government
Improve transparency.
Improve communication inside and outside the organization.
