Students will meet you in the main work station at 07:30 to head down to morning
report as a group unless otherwise specified by you or the schedule.
Do give students a lunch break, but on didactic days, they can get lunch and bring
it over to UH.
Do try to give a teaching session of some kind during the shift if they are not
scheduled for one that day.
Observe each student doing a H&P if possible and review at least one of their
written notes during your few days on service.
Please DO NOT miss any required didactic sessions as students will be tested on
that material. You may accompany students to UH if there are no patients inprogress and you want to. Please let the UH teaching attending know if the
students are getting their talk at TCH instead and not coming over.
The toxicology talk, “The poisoned patient” is saved to the computer desktop and
a CD copy is in the folder. If you decide to give it instead of having students go
over to UH, give students a copy of the talk from the file cabinet folder once
you’re done.
Fever PBL materials for you are in the file cabinet folder. Take an instructor
copy and copies of the two articles. (Students are required to read 1 article
depending on their site.) Please review these before your PBL session. You will
receive an email from Marybeth Hutchins or Tien for the location of this session
at the end of the first week.
Sign Students’ Signature cards at the end of each shift to document attendance.
Students’ orientation manual and site orientation documents are in the folders for
your perusal if needed.
Do notify Tien if there is a student who is at risk for failing. Talk to this student
and give them constructive feedback for improvement.
An extra ECG student handout and ECGs to read are in the file cabinet if you
need something for them to do.
Evaluations
Students are required to give names of 3 physicians to evaluate them through New
Innovations at the end of their clerkship. Students are required to complete reciprocal
evaluations of their attendings through New Innovations. If you receive at least 3
evaluations during the academic year, the School of Medicine (via Tien) will send you an
evaluation summary for your records. Please complete your evaluations on-line in a
timely fashion so we are not delinquent on grades.
If you are giving the Toxicology didactic talk (or any other talks), you may distribute
paper evaluations to the students (located in Evaluations Folder) and recollect them
yourself.
Notify Tien (email or call 303-564-2549) or Marybeth Hutchins
(Marybeth.hutchins@ucdenver.edu) if a student did not show up for a shift or with
any other concerns/questions.
