Memorandum of Understanding
Between
The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Library
And

Purpose
This memorandum of understanding is to establish a custodial agreement between
the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Libraries and University of Hawai‘i at
Mānoa, Department of <Name of Department goes here> with regard to hosting
the online version of the journal <Name of journal goes here>. (Anymore I make
this generic as in “hosting online Department of Mathematics documents.)
University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Department of <Name of Department goes here>
will:
1.
Assume responsibility for matters pertaining to copyright.
2.
Designate <Name of individual goes here> as the liaison to University of Hawai’i
at Mānoa Library staff for the purposes of this agreement.
3.
Notify University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Library if there are any changes in
personnel or agreements with content providers that would affect security or
terms of access or impact the users of the database.
4.
Allow University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Library to configure network connectivity
in a manner that maximizes security of the library network.
5.
Permit (but not require) University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Library to upgrade
hardware and/or software or to migrate the database to a newer platform to
provide continued access, if necessary at some future time.
6.
Permit University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Library to translate the submission to any
medium or format for the purpose of preservation.
The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Library will:
1.
Load online and store the PDF files of the journal issues (documents) and make
them available for downloading via the Library's web site.
2.
Designate Beth Tillinghast, Librarian, Desktop Network Services, as the liaison
for purposes of this agreement.
3.
Perform routine service such as backup, restoration of files in standard computer
room procedures to the extent allowed by the library's existing hardware and
software.
4.
Without changing the content, translate the submission to any medium or format
for the purpose of preservation.
5.
Keep more than one copy of submissions for purposes of security, back-up, and
preservation.
6.
When upgrading hardware or software or migrating to another platform, maintain
existing access until full transfer is accomplished.
Termination:
1.
Termination may be effected by either party upon thirty (30) days written notice.
2.
Should termination occur, the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Library and the
<Name of Department or name of journal> will no longer process new digital
information.
