Attended Mott Community College from 1995-1998 as an Art Education major and graduated
with honors from the University of Michigan-Flint, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art
with a concentration in Painting and a minor in Art History. May of 2010, I completed my Master
of Fine Art, with a concentration in Painting from Kendall College of Art and Design. Some art
courses taken include Painting, Figure Drawing, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Sculpture,
Printmaking, and Art Education. Art History and Theory classes include but are not limited to,
Post-Structuralism, Ethics and Visual Representation, Contemporary Painting, Contemporary Art,
Art and the Psyche, History of Graphic Design, and American Art History.
Teaching experience
September 2010 – present: Art instructor/lecturer at the University of Michigan-Flint. Courses
taught include Painting I, Drawing or Panting Processes and Properties, Oil Painting, Water-based
Painting, Drawing and Painting from Life I, Drawing and Painting from Life II, Drawing I,
Drawing II, Introduction to Studio Art, and Two-dimensional Design/Color and Design .
September 2010 – Fall 2013: Painting instructor at the Flint Institute of Arts. I have taught
beginning painting class and currently teach intermediate/advanced painting.
June 25th, 2011: Drawing workshop at Buckham Gallery, Flint, MI. An all ages workshop
teaching basic drawing skills. My time was donated to help the non-profit gallery raise funds for
daily operations.
January – April 2003: Painting instructor at local Community Centers for The University of
Michigan- Flint’s Outreach Program
September- November 2002: Designed and worked with students on a Michigan History mural at
Myers Elementary in Grand Blanc, Michigan
May-July 2002, 2003, and 2004: Worked as Assistant to Professor Mike Sevick for his Mural
Painting class at The University of Michigan-Flint
February – May 2002: Worked for Flint Community Schools “Bridges to the Future” after school
program. I taught students how to paint murals and helped them execute their own murals in
various schools in the Flint area.
April-May 200: Painted and mentored students in the execution of an anti-violence mural at
Bentley High School in Burton, Michigan. The project was funded by a grant from the Flint
Cultural center.
January – March 2001: Student-Teacher through The University of Michigan-Flint at Swartz
Creek High School, Swartz Creek Michigan.

September 2014: Featured Artist in the “4xFNT” exhibition at Buckham Gallery in Flint, MI.

John Dempsey.

office to display on various occasions to promote their art program.

September 2013: 2013 Paragon Society National Conference. Spoke about my art and my
experiences as a professional studio artist to scholars, educators, art historians, etc. Flint Institute
of Arts, Flint Mi.
Collections
Institutional collections
One oil painting commissioned by Kettering University of Flint, Michigan in June 2012 and now
in their permanent collection.
Two oil paintings are in the permanent collection of Kettering University of Flint, Michigan that
were acquired in the Fall of 2006.
Several murals I have created fully or in part are on permanent display at the University of
Michigan-Flint, located in Flint, Michigan.
Private collections
My work is also in several private collections in the United States including Michigan, California,
and Colorado.
Murals
I have created and worked on several murals, both public and private in their funding and/or
visibility. Locations include homes, public schools, businesses, and universities. Many of the
murals I have worked on were at the University of Michigan-Flint as a student and as a
professional. Here are just a few recent examples.
July 2010: Painted a Physical Therapy themed mural with Mike Sevick. University of MichiganFlint, William S. White building.
July 2005 – Present: Design and execute painted scenes for a Children’s trail at Montrose
Orchards, Montrose, MI.
Community Service
April 2010-April 2013: Board of Directors member, Buckham Gallery, Flint, MI. Buckham is a
non-profit organization. I am on their Board of Directors and am also an Artist Member.
June 11th, 2011: Co-Juror for the Flint Institute of Arts 44th Annual Flint Art Fair. Professor
Michael Sevick and I served as the jurors for the annual art fair, deciding the 1st-3rd place
winning art exhibitors as well four honorable mentions.
