The Institutional Effectiveness Committee met at 9 a.m. Oct. 27, 2006 in the Oil Room. Haleigh Ballow, a freshman from Levelland, was introduced as the student representative on the committee. The following agenda items were taken up. 06-07 IE Committee Planning Report: The suggested plan of work for the IE Committee was distributed for review. The targeted objectives for 2006-07 include the following. 1. Investigate the implementation of online planning activities and resources. (Continuation) Planning Processes Subcommittee 2. Continue to develop a group of planning process experts to serve as a resource for planners. (Continuation) Planning Processes Subcommittee 3. Provide leadership in developing and facilitating a process that defines learning outcomes for the educational programs of the college. (Continuation) Assessment and Outcomes Subcommittee 4. Conduct a comparative review of THECB accountability system and align SPC performance reporting to meet new requirements. (Continuation) 5. Provide support for the development of graduate follow-up survey process and system. (Continuation) 6. Study the organizational communications process in response to results from the 2006 Employee Survey and identify opportunities for improvement. Communications Process Subcommittee 7. Facilitate the development of a Supervisor Training Network to improve organizational communications and shared decision-making. Supervisor Training Network Subcommittee 8. Foster employee awareness, understanding and involvement in the planning process in response to results of the 2006 Employee Survey. (Continuation) Planning Subcommittee IEC Committee Meeting, 10/27/06 1 Committee members were asked to review the 2006-07 IE Planning Report and to forward any revisions or comments to Stephen John. A list of active subcommittees and membership was also distributed. The following subcommittees are currently working on IE projects. Planning Processes Subcommittee: Larry Nichols (Chairperson), Stephanie Jones, Marla Cottenoir, Cary Marrow. Communications Process Subcommittee: Kimbra Quinn (Chairperson), Dane Dewbre, Kara Martinez, Stephanie Jones, Gail Platt, Dennis Churchwell. Assessment and Outcomes Subcommittee: Gail Platt (Chairperson), Phil Anderson, Jay Driver, Rob Blair, David Conner, Mollie Melton, Justin Duffell, Teresa Salinas, Darrell Grimes, Orlo Sundre. Supervisor Training Network Subcommittee: Jeri Ann Dewbre (Chairperson), Fran Cotton, Ginger Mulloy, Rafael Aguilera, Barbara Walker, Lee Cox. New Employee Orientation Subcommittee: Dick Walsh, Stephen John, Jeri Ann Dewbre, Darrell Grimes. IE Committee members who have not been assigned to a subcommittee were requested to contact the chairperson of the subcommittee they wish to serve on. Assessment and Outcomes Subcommittee: Gail Platt reported that the ad hoc task force to review the learning outcomes list developed by departmental chairpersons was scheduled to meet at 12 p.m. Oct. 27. Interested IE committee members are invited to participate as well. About eight departments have designated faculty representatives to participate on the task force. Other faculty will be recruited. The group will meet to discuss the learning outcomes and how to measure these outcomes. Planning Processes Subcommittee: Stephen John reported that the Planning Processes Subcommittee will meet soon to discuss a plan of action for the two targeted objectives identified for this group. A new Institutional Effectiveness web site has been developed and posted to the new SPC site. It is located in the “Information for SPC Employees” section. The site includes planning resources, reports, survey data and analysis, and IE Committee information and minutes. Other information items for the site should be directed to Stephen. Communications Processes Subcommittee: Dane Dewbre reported that the subcommittee will meet at 2 p.m. Oct. 27. Interested IE committee members are invited to attend. The group will develop a process for engaging instructional and administrative leadership in an evaluation of the college’s organizational communications in order to identify key challenges. Supervisor Training Network Subcommittee: It was reported that this subcommittee will meet within the next two weeks to begin its work. Review of NEO Evaluations: Dick Walsh presented the evaluation data from the New Employee Orientation sessions in August and September. All three sessions received high marks from participants. Overall rating for Day 1 was 4.70; Day 2 was 4.93; and Day 3 was 4.81 IEC Committee Meeting, 10/27/06 2 on a 5-point scale. Dick thanked all the IE Committee members and volunteers who helped make the Day 3 event a success for new employees. He discussed participation levels for the Day 3 event, which focuses on our vision and values, noting that 10 new employees did not participate for various reasons. An effort will be made in the future to remind supervisors of the importance of this orientation program for new employees. It was also suggested that new employees who are hired in the fall and early spring and who generally do not participate in the August new employee orientation, be invited and encouraged to attend the vision and values session. Spring 2007 IE Committee Meeting Schedule: The IE Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in the Founders Room on Friday, January 26 and Friday March 23, 2007.
