SUGGESTED PREREQUISITE(s). None.
TEXTBOOK. Skills and Techniques for the New Nursing Assistant, Gillogly and Conley, 7th
Edition.
SUPPLIES. Bring your textbook and pencil and paper to every class to take down notes or
other information.
IMMUNIZATION RECORDS: Students must provide proof of immunization for the MMR,
Tetanus, Hepatitis B Series, and have a current TB test.
COURSE DESCRIPTION. A method of instruction providing detailed education, training and
work-based experience, and direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific
detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. On-site clinical
instruction, supervision, evaluation, and placement is the responsibility of the college faculty.
Clinical experiences are unpaid external learning experiences. Students learn the necessary skills
to work in long-term care, home health, or hospital environments. Upon completion of the 60
hours of classroom and 40 hours of clinical training, each student will be required to take the
State of Texas Certified Nurse Aide Competency Examination. This course will prepare nurse
aides with the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for the provision of basic care to residents
in long-term care facilities
LEARNING OUTCOMES. Students will be able to communicate knowledge and demonstrate
basic skills essential for caring for residents in long-term care facilities.

METHOD OF COURSE EVALUATION. Periodic written tests and demonstration of skills
throughout length of course—preparing to master knowledge required for State exam and
evaluation both written exam and clinical observation exam..
GRADING POLICY: Grades for all Continuing education courses will be on a pass/fail basis.

FACILITY USE The following rules have been established for students, faculty, and staff using
the facilities of South Plains College:
1. Smoking is only allowed outside the building.
2. Food and drinks are not allowed in classrooms, labs or other areas with technical equipment.
CANCELLED CLASSES. If the weather becomes prohibitive for travel, classes may be
cancelled and rescheduled—consult the local television or radio news coverage for information
or call (806) 894-9611 Ext. 2341.
REFUNDS. Full refunds are made if notification to drop the class is made prior to the first class
day or of a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or other circumstances. For classes
dropped after the starting date, partial refunds may apply.
