Development of Behavior During the Lifespan
Unit Syllabus
This first unit of the second semester will first focus on genetics and the nature/nurture
interaction, and then go through the whole lifespan. After going in depth with early childhood, we
will move pretty quickly through most of the lifespan, but we will slow down and go into more
depth for the adolescent years.
There are only two Essential Questions, and they are both charts to be filled out. I hope that you
will expend a decent amount of effort to fill them out and use them for class and for studying for
the test, and the AP Exam.
You can also expect some class time to be spent on preparing for the AP Exam. For example,
you may come into class and we will be writing and grading an AP-style free response question.
Essential Question:
1. How do people grow and develop physically, cognitively, morally, and socially through the
lifespan?
For this question, you will use the chart that I give you, with the four domains (physical,
cognitive, moral, and socio-emotional) on the X axis, and the five age periods on the Y axis.
Fill in specific, important information (including names of researchers and their concepts) to
the relevant grids as you proceed through the chapters and all of the photocopied articles.
