PEER ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE Department of Criminal Justice Peer Assessment Procedure Department of Criminal Justice Mission Statement The mission of the Department is to contribute to knowledge and understanding of crime and criminal justice. Our goal for our students is that they become creative thinkers and leaders who will reach beyond current intellectual and cultural boundaries to become change agents for shaping the future of criminal justice in the United States and the world. Goal of Peer Assessment Peer assessments are a valuable tool for individual faculty member growth. Peer assessment in the Department of Criminal Justice shall seek to assure as completely as possible that the mission and goals of the Department are adhered to in all aspects of the faculty member’s work, and shall offer key insights into strengths and weaknesses for each member of the faculty. Peer assessment will include classroom observation, review of other relevant documents, and dialogue between the faculty member and the peer assessment committee. Peer Assessment Committee Each faculty member in the Department of Criminal Justice will be assessed by a committee of two peers. One member of the faculty member’s committee will be assigned by the Department Chair and the other will be selected by the faculty member. Reviewers are required to provide qualitative comments. -1-
