PEER ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE—Department of Government and History The annual Peer Assessment Procedure assists faculty members in obtaining their goals of being excellent teachers, outstanding scholars, and good citizens of the academic community. The Peer Assessment Process guides the faculty towards tenure and promotion and assists in deciding meritorious service to the University. The faculty members in the Department of Government and History evaluate their peers in relation to the goals and objectives of the University. The faculty members in the program also take a leadership role in resolving differences that might arise during assessment. I. Selection of the Committee Members a. A committee of at least (3) members or more that reviews all portfolios. b. Committee members rotate annually. II. Procedures a. The Committee shall be established in the Fall semester, no later than the second meeting. b. The Peer Review Committee will elect a Chair to call the meetings and finalize the narratives. c. The instrument for assessment shall be based on the Peer Assessment document developed by the unit d. Faculty members complete their evaluations and submit them and their portfolios to the committee by the end of March. e. At the end of the annual review, members of the Peer Review Committee will review the portfolios of its members with the reviewee recusing him or herself from the review. f. The Committee reports its reviews by the third week of April. III. Appeals Process a. In the event that the Department Chair and the Peer Review Committee disagree, then the Chair will in writing note his/her concerns and include it in the report. b. The College Tenure and Promotion Committee shall review the appeal and submit in writing its evaluation, which shall be included in the portfolio. c. If still unsatisfied with the review, the reviewee may file with the Grievance Committee.
