Professorial Zone Movement Application Form

Professorial Zone Movement Application Form
The University’s zone based pay & reward structure provides for movement between the zones within the professorial grade of the academic
career track, subject to satisfying the relevant zone descriptor criteria in relation to which an application is sought. The set of 4 zone
descriptors specific to each College provide the criteria against which each professor will be measured:
http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/humanresources/all/pay/professorialandgrade10staff/
To be considered for movement into the next zone, professorial staff are required to submit the form below, duly completed, demonstrating
that the level of performance and associated outputs match the zone descriptors of the higher level. With reference to your previous zoning
application you are required to specify clearly, under the relevant criteria, any changes to your profile. (If required, a copy of your previous
zoning application can be obtained from hr-ppr@glasgow.ac.uk). You are also required to attach an up-to-date CV and a full publication
listing. Should you wish to include citation data, the University library can provide you with the relevant InCites (web of Science) reports
which can be requested by e-mailing library-incites@glasgow.ac.uk.
The submitted documentation will be considered and judged on its merits in accordance with the criteria applicable to the zone into which
movement is sought. The information that you choose to submit is central to the decision making process, since it is an opportunity for you
to outline the continuing development of your recent career, highlighting your contributions to the Subject, School, College and/or University.
The information you provide should therefore address each heading under Research & Scholarship, Knowledge Exchange and Impact,
Teaching & Learning, Academic Leadership and Management and Indicators of Esteem. Reference to activity associated with
internationalisation should be recorded under the relevant heading i.e. Learning & Teaching, Leadership & Management, etc.
Zone movement panels will have access to Russell Group and sector median data by subject discipline and publication databases:
http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/humanresources/all/pay/professorialandgrade10staff/rgbenchmarkdata/
It is expected that a professor will normally be able to demonstrate meeting a preponderance of the criteria outlined across the range of
academic activity, to justify movement into the next zone within the professorial career path, irrespective of track. There will be no
expectation that all of the listed activities will be undertaken all of the time. It does mean that the University can expect/require professors to
undertake any of these activities. The criteria are not exhaustive, and professors may be required to undertake other duties of a similar level
and responsibility. In some roles and disciplines, some of the activities detailed will be essential requirements of the role. Criteria for
assessing the extent to which a professorial profile meets the criteria for movement into the next zone will be applied fairly and consistently.
Judgements will be based as far as possible on objective evidence and where appropriate, in meeting a preponderance of the criteria across
the range of academic activity applicable to the zone.
