Lack of the ability to analyze information and to formulate concepts is apparent by results-as is the inability to understand abstract concepts. I assume this is due to a deficiency in their preparation. ISLO#1 research has indicated that English 28 and English 101 make a big difference in student communication skills. However, this class’ writing skills was better than those on previous SLOs. Although they wrote better, they still struggle with answering the question asked. Use of Results Greater emphasis needs to be placed on essential skills-reading of text in class and “learning how to read a text”; use of terms/ application for in-class dialogues for competency. This assignment usually occurs at the end of the semester. Idea: require a draft I would like to see students participate in a learning community with disciplines across the curriculum, especially English and Speech. 2 4. Continue to have students do a “time-line” of personal philosophical questions in order to connect with the conversation of ideas. 1 5. Since exam results were much greater than anticipated, and higher than other student outcomes, this problem-solving approach was more effective in the comprehension of course-related questions. Idea: implement this as a strategy for student-centered inquiry.
