Giving voc. test early in semester has increased
the scores (see last semester slo)
Identify students that are performing poorly,
very early in semester, and advise them
appropriately.
Lack of the ability to analyze information and
to formulate concepts is apparent by results-as is
the inability to understand abstract concepts. I
assume this is due to a deficiency in their
preparation. ISLO#1 research has indicated that
English 28 and English 101 make a big
difference in student communication skills.
Research adopting this as a prerequisite. This is
an ongoing campus-wide discussion.
Research ways to motivate students to study and
to arrive for class on time.

Student score on vocab test correlates directly
to the score on previous tests, as such will give
vocab test early in semester and advise students
appropriately

Students need more work in English
composition, again an argument in favor of
English 28 as a pre-requisite. However, this
class’ writing skills was better than those on
previous SLOs. Although they wrote better, they
still struggle with answering the question asked.

Since exam results were much greater than
anticipated, and higher than other student
outcomes, this problem-solving approach
was more effective in the comprehension of
course-related questions.
Idea: implement this as a strategy for
student-centered inquiry.
