Solve equations involving rational expressions. 3. Solve word problems involving rational expressions. 4. Simplify complex fractions 5. Compute the slope of a straight line given two points. 6. Find the equation of a line given two points or given the slope and one point. 7. Graph straight lines and inequalities. Translations 8. Evaluate a function. 9. Graph a function (quadratic or linear). Determine its domain and range. 10. Solve equations and Means of Assessment and Criteria for Success Means: A problem involving addition of rational expressions was embedded in an exam and given to all Math 123B sections scheduled during the spring 2009 session. Students were instructed to add the expression and simplify. Criteria: 50% of the class will demonstrate satisfactory performance of 3 or higher on these problems based upon a math department scoring rubric. . Summary of Data Collected No assessment Use of Results Assessment results of the first four SLO’s are mixed, with the first and third SLO barely meeting, the second exceeding and the fourth not meeting expected criteria. Actions are still being determined. 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 inequalities involving absolute value. 11. Solve a variation problem—direct, inverse, or joint. 12. Simplify radicals. 13. Simply algebraic expressions containing fractional exponents. 14. Solve equations involving radicals. 15. Solve quadratic equations using a variety of methods: factoring, square root, completing the square, and quadratic formula 16. Solve word problems involving quadratic equations. 17.
