Demonstrate the ability to categorize children’s books into major classification/genres. 3. Review and select quality literature for young children using National Association for the Education of Young Children guidelines. 4. Demonstrate techniques of presenting storytelling activities and experiences appropriate for young children. 5. Collect/construct age-appropriate props used to engage young children during storytelling. Require an in-depth explanation of each function listed in the future. Fall 2011: 70% of a random sample of students (12) successfully identified major classifications. Have students define categories by actively participating in a classroom activity. Change criteria to 90% of students. Fall 2011: 95% of a random sample of students (12) successfully selected books using NAEYC standards. Revise the assignment by including a greater selection of books that do not meet NAEYC standards to increase difficulty of said task.
