Working Solutions Program Course Syllabus Introduction to Word Processing MS-WORD INSTRUCTOR: Irene Vargas COURSE DESCRIPTION: Microsoft Word 6.0 is a word processing program that runs under MS Windows. It is a friendly program that allows users to produce neat, organized and professional looking documents. PREREQUISITE: Keyboarding and computer basics COURSE GOALS: MS Word allows you to combine text with spreadsheets, graphics, and pictures in your document. Because it is Windows-based, you can perform many of the functions by pointing and clicking with your mouse. Produce well-formatted documents. 2. Demonstrate understanding of word processing. 3. Understand the Word components such as Menu, file, edit, view, insert, format, tools, etc. 4. EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Classroom equipped with IBM compatible computers capable of running state-of-the-art software. Each system should be equipped with MS-Word and Internet access, printer connection, and a CD-ROM drive. Materials Needed: 3.5" high-density floppy disk(s). METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: Lecture notes will be furnished on the first day of classes. They will also be available in the computers in Room 1552. Those notes will include several sites in the Internet to be browsed. Students are expected to read the notes and visit room 1552 to practice on the computers. In addition, students are expected to read, understand and practice each exercise. METHODS OF EVALUATING OUTCOMES: The course will be evaluated with 3 class exercises and a test at the end of the class period.
