Paper Layout/Organization
 Introduce the topic (1-2 paragraphs - reason for research)
 Previous research (What is already known)
 How does your project relate to or expands on previous research
 Description of your project including variables in experiment (IV &
DV and control constants)
 Unique procedures described
 Citations where needed (correct APA style - the end of a sentence or
paragraph (Author, year)
Spelling/grammar
 Write in 3rd person. Do not use “you”/“I”/“me” (no personal pronouns)
 Don’t, Can’t, Wouldn’t: Do not use contractions
 Spell out numbers under 10
 Define all abbreviations the first time you use them
 Define unfamiliar terms
 Scientific names written correctly & Proper use of scientific terms
 Use statements instead of questions.
 Avoid using value judgment language. Ex. “bad for environment”
