Class Mission Statement

“Our mission is to go to college, earn a degree, and fulfill our dreams! We will accomplish our goals by listening to and learning from each other so we can learn everything we need to know.

Classroom Expectations

Be Respectful

*We listen to the speaker and wait our turn to share., *We follow the teacher’s directions quickly and *We respect all classmates and materials.

Be Responsible

*We work hard at all times~ always do our best!,

*We keep our area and classroom clean.* We come prepared to school each day.

Be Safe

*We stay in our space and move carefully around the room.

Classroom Behavior System:

Along with Class Dojo I also use a behavior chart system in my classroom. Student names are on clothespins and students can clip up on our behavior chart throughout the day. All students start on “ready to learn.” Students who exceed expectations can then move up to “good choices”.

If they continue to show exceptional behavior they move “great choices” and then “outstanding.” If they go beyond “outstanding” they get clipped on my name tag.

Students do not clip down on my chart. Any behavior issue will be communicated privately through Class Dojo.

At the end of each day, students will be rewarded green tornadoes based on their spot on the behavior chart. Each Friday we choose 5 student names from a jar and those students are the VIPs

(very important pupils) for the next week. VIP students get to line up first, get access to free laptop and IPAD time and serve as our model students all week. Students are very excited about this.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerned. My top priority is a safe classroom where everyone feels valued, respected, and has the opportunity to learn!

Homework Procedures

*Homework will start the Week of Sept. 8 th *

Your child has a “Tools for Success” binder that will keep them organized. This is where they keep their agenda (optional) and homework. Your child will have Reading & Math homework Monday through Thursday. Your child should be spending no more than 30 min on homework each night.

Your child will be assigned one math sheet for the week and will complete 4 problems per night that review math skills throughout the year. I encourage you to look over the problems with your child and discuss different strategies for solving and how these skills can be used in real life situations.

For reading homework your child will be required to read uninterrupted for 20 minutes. Please write the title of the book and initial inside the agenda.

Research has proven that reading every day can drastically improve a child's reading ability. Be sure to visit local libraries and find fun interesting books your child enjoys reading. Your child may also practice on “Ticket to Read” or “Mobymax” at home as an alternative to reading a book.

(usernames and passwords to come later)

Your child will have spelling and a few vocabulary words every 2 weeks. I use the "Words Their

Way" spelling program that is specifically catered to your child's needs and makes connections to spelling patterns rather than rote memorization.

Students will be tested every other Friday.

Students will be working with these words during our Literacy block. They should study a few minutes at home but the bulk of the practice will be occurring during the school day.

*Please let me know if you have any questions concerning homework procedures or your child has difficulty completing the assigned tasks in 30 minutes. Thank you for your support.
