Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome! I hope that you enjoyed your summer break and are ready for a great year here at SIHS! Though I
intend the semester will be full of excitement and discovery, I want to emphasize that learning is the most
important factor in the classroom. In order to create a classroom conducive to learning, the following rules,
policies, and procedures will be implemented and upheld.
Classroom Procedures
1.
Students will enter the classroom without disruption or excessive noise.
2.
Students will sit in assigned seats.
3.
Students will promptly begin working on their warm up upon entering the classroom.
4.
Students will transition between classroom assignments and activities without talking.
5.
Student’s will pack up and exit the classroom only when dismissed by the teacher, not the bell.
Classroom Rules
1.
Students must be on time. All tardies will be handled according to the tardy policy in the South Iredell
Handbook.
2.
Students must be prepared. Students must come to class everyday with all necessary materials, which
include their English three-ring binder, a pen or pencil, and any other specified materials.
3.
Students must be respectful to their peers, their teacher, their materials, and themselves. No forms of
disrespect will be tolerated. Any issues will be sent to administration via a write up slip.
4.
Students must not be disruptive. Any unnecessary disruptions will result in detentions, phone calls
home, and/or office referrals.
Classroom Policies
1.
Cheating: All cheating results in a zero, a phone call home, and in certain cases, an office referral. This
includes plagiarism.
2.
Food and Drink: Water will be allowed if disposed of properly. Water must have a lid and be in a clear
container. The teacher reserves the right to cancel this policy at any time.
3.
Late work: Assignments are late if they are not handed in when collected by the teacher. If the student
was present on the day the assignment was given and is present on the day the assignment is due, the
assignment will be a zero until it is made up. If the student is present on the day the assignment in
given, but absent on the due date, then the assignment is due the day the student returns. The amount
of points taken off will be at the discretion of the teacher. Students can find all missed assignments in

their designated folder. Please inform me if there is an emergency situation that prohibits homework
from being completed.
4.
Absences: It is the responsibility of the student to check in their classroom folder for absent work.
Students may not get absent work during class time unless instructed. Before or after school and
before or after class are good times to get make-up work. All daily assignments will be posted on the
assignment board.
5.
Tutoring and After School Detention: Tutoring is available by appointment only before and after
school, and of course during designated SMART LUNCH SESSION. ASD is to be determined by the
teacher after school in discipline cases.
6.
Grading: Students’ grades will be weighted as follows:
Homework 10%
Class work 35%
Quizzes
30%
Tests/Essays 40%
Projects
25%
Contact Information
You may contact me at any time via email or school telephone. Please do not hesitate to contact me
with any questions or concerns. I have an open-door policy with students and parents; and therefore, I
encourage regular involvement! I update my webpage frequently, and I use Twitter as a way to communicate
with both students and parents. Twitter gives me the opportunity to have real time interaction with you and
your child outside the walls of my classroom. Almost daily, I tweet assignment reminders, essential questions,
encouraging words, or anything I deem necessary for my students. I encourage you to follow our classroom
Twitter account, so that we may all become actively involved in our classroom learning.
Please return the following completed sheet signed by your parents or guardians for you first homework
assignment.
