Advanced Studies Foods
Teacher Café Project
Twice a month we will have teacher café in my room. The purpose of the café is:
#1 to give students the opportunity to have hands on experience using ServSafe and food
preparation principles learned in Foods I and II
#2- to provide an affordable meal for teachers that is different from the items offered in
the cafeteria
#3- to provide teachers a pleasant dining atmosphere where they can enjoy fellowship
with their co-workers
#4- to make a little money for the Foods class to purchase supplies or pay for field trips.
Your job is to plan a meal that is nutritious, appealing to most and affordable (less than
$7.00 per plate). You will need to select your menu items (an entrée, side dish (es),
dessert and beverage). Consider the season, upcoming holidays and the weather as you
plan.
You must create an order form and place it in teacher’s boxes to determine the number of
meals you will prepare. This order form should be creative, tell your menu, price and
date. Include a place for teachers to tell their name, lunch time and if they want to dine
in, take out or delivery. Beside the delivery line you will need to include a space for their
lunch time location.
When it is your turn to offer café:
You must prepare a market order sheet detailing exact items of each item you will need.
(Don’t forget paper products)
You must keep financial records of expenditures and income.
You must ask for teacher feedback for each meal.
You will prepare a plan to implement your café. In the plan you will tell which foods can
be prepared the day before and how the food will be held for serving. You will assign
jobs to each student in the class. On café days we will route our lunch schedule.
.
Things to consider:
-Teachers get paid the first of each month.
-Teachers only have about 20 minutes to eat.
-Some menu items can be prepped the day before saving you a lot of time on the day of
the café. (Desserts, beverages, soup….) We will only have one prep day.
-You will need to get your orders back in time to prepare your market order list and give
me time to shop. I usually ask for them back one week before the café.
