¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! By this point in your Spanish language studies you
have quite a bit of knowledge and ability in using the language. The early components of
language learning will continue to be important as we go deeper with the structures and
vocabulary. While the title of the course is AP Spanish, the focus of the course will be to
stretch your skills in preparation for the AP test and your college placement. You will be
expected to participate in a variety of activities to practice these skills in order to improve
your proficiency in Spanish. Cultural aspects of the language and respective countries will
also be explored. I look forward to sharing your Spanish language journey this year!
Homework:
A variety of activities using each of the core components will help you enhance your use of
grammatical concepts and vocabulary clusters in practical applications. Homework is
designed to reinforce what is done in class and is vitally important as formative
assessments to help you be successful on subsequent summative assessments. You are
expected to do your homework and make corrections when we go over it in class. All
assigned work is required to be turned in on time and will not be accepted late.
Classroom activities will often be done with a partner or small group. I expect you to do
your part when working with other students.
Some assignments will require the use of the Internet. If you do not have a computer
at home there are computers available at school in the library, computer labs, and
classrooms especially during Flex.
Grading:
Graded assessments are distributed among each of the four core skills: reading, writing,
speaking, and listening as well as vocab/grammar quizzes, projects, and homework. I use
a point system with points earned divided by points possible to determine the grade
percentage. Both formative and summative assessments will be given to monitor your
progress and my instruction. The Phoenix grade book using StudentVUE and ParentVUE
will be open in September to you and your parents for you to track your grades. There are
also free apps available for your personal devices. Active participation in class and
completion of homework will help you prepare. Speaking Spanish in class and outside
of class to the teacher and other students is most beneficial and required.
NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED. THIS IS A COLLEGE LEVEL COURSE.

Spanish teachers are available in workroom 101 and I will be in rooms 122
and 107 this year. Please take advantage of help offered as needed. Take
responsibility for your learning.

When you are absent from class please communicate with me via e-mail immediately
and check my webpage assignment page for missed work. I will also use our class
Wiki and Remind101 to communicate work and reminders. Please make
arrangements to make up work within 5 days of your return. As for all of your
classes, it’s really important for you to be in class!
SUPPLIES: PLEASE BRING THESE TO CLASS EACH DAY.
 3-ring (1-1 1/2”) notebook for this class only
 Loose leaf paper
 Pencils
 Black or blue pens, red pen
 Dry erase marker, highlighter marker
May seems so far away, but the year will fly! We can do as much as we can each
class period, but I suggest consistently reviewing and practicing as much as possible on
your own. Participate in the class Wikispace and Twitter and get your classmates
discussing hot topics and current issues. Watch Spanish television. Listen to Spanish
radio and music. Spend time with your classmates and only speak Spanish – you will be
amazed how much you will learn by doing this!
Expose yourself to the Spanish language as much in possible. When you go to stores
observe if anyone working there is speaking Spanish. If so, ask if you can do your business
with them in Spanish. More often than not they will be very happy to practice with you!
