Baking and Measuring Module Sugar Cookie Recipe
Ingredients
¼ cup shortening
½ cup sugar
1 egg
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup flour
¾ teaspoon baking powder
Powdered sugar for rolling out cookies
Granulated sugar for sprinkling on top of cookies
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, use an electric hand mixer to cream together the shortening and sugar. Add the
egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined about 1 minute.
In a separate mixing bowl mix together the flour and baking powder.
Add half of the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix with the hand mixer. When the dry
ingredients are combined add in the rest of the flour and baking powder. Mix until fully incorporated.
Refrigerate dough several hours or overnight
Pre-heat oven to 350®
Divide dough in half. Sprinkle powdered sugar on half of the dough and your rolling pin. Roll the cookie
dough to a 1/8 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out cookie shapes. Sprinkle each shape with
granulated sugar and place on a cookie sheet.
Bake cookies at 350® for about 8-11 minutes
