Mission Statement
Mrs. Mullen’s Class Mission Statement
2015-2016
In 4th grade this year, we will strive to do our best and work hard in
all subjects and activities. We will be respectful to school staff, classmates,
other students, teachers, and ourselves. We will also take care of school
property.
We will pay attention and listen. We will stay organized, be
responsible and honest, and try to make good choices. We will make new
friends, and treat others as we would like to be treated. We will try our
best on every test we take. We will use the strategies that our teachers
have taught us. We will work to improve our weaknesses, meet our goals,
and pass EOG’s!!
We will try to have as much fun as possible!!!

Common Core
The common core is basically the standard
course of study. It is the standards we have
always taught. The only differences may be
different approaches to the same standard,
and implementing more writing into all
subject areas.

Testing in 4th Grade

One baseline test in reading and math.
Two benchmark assessments in reading and math.
AIMS web Math and Reading (every quarter)
EOG’S – Math and Reading, Late May/Early June
District tests allow us to analyze data to see your child’s
strengths and weaknesses. It also lets us see any gaps
they may have missed in their previous years of learning.
Knowing this information helps us to differentiate for your
child based on their particular needs. We create
enrichment and remediation groups from this data.
4th grade Curriculum
• Reading: novel units, AR, non-fiction, trade books, guided reading
groups, interactive notebooks, Daily 5, and book reports.
• Language Arts: vocabulary, grammar, figurative language and
writing.
• Daily 5 model: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading,
Work on Writing, and Word Work
• P.R.O.B.E.: Personal Research On Basically Everything
• Science and Social Studies are integrated into literacy.
Scholastic News may be a Social Studies grade and/or an ELA
grade.

• Planners: Students write down assignments each day
after enhancement. I check planners daily before they
pack up to see that they have their assignments.
• Reading: 20 or more minutes daily, complete one
reading journal entry. Any three completed by Thursday
• Math: 1 Math assignment each day
Moby Max, Tenmarks
• Vocabulary: Greek and Latin roots, daily assignment
• No homework on Fridays!
