I. Summative Assessments
100 points maximum each
(Tests/Quizzes/Projects)
Summative assessments are used at the end of a learning cycle to determine if students
have mastered the material. They will receive a grade based on the number of points
earned divided by the number of total points. These are the only grades that will
impact a student’s numerical average.
________________________________________________________________________________________
2. Formative Assessments
4 points maximum each
(Writing/Speaking/Listening/Reading/Organized Binder)
*Formative assessments determine whether or not students are making progress towards
the learning target. It is mandatory for students to complete these assessments in
order to show mastery of the material. They will receive a grade of Z-4 points based
on the following learning progression scale. *New in 2013 - Although Clarity may
show a letter next to the Z-4 point scale, (for example = “3” may have a “C” next to
it), these letter grades DO NOT impact student’s numerical average. The visible letter
grade is a simply Clarity technical matter and you may choose to disregard it.
4 = Advanced Proficiency = I go beyond the learning target.
3 = Proficiency = I complete the learning target.
2 = Making Progress = I do some of the steps towards completing the learning target.
1 = Needs More Work = I do a basic “first step” towards the learning target
Z = Unsatisfactory = missing assignment and it will be a zero if I do not turn it in.
Due to the quicker pace of this high school credit class, students will have
ONE week to retake an assessment. Plan accordingly!!!
80-100% - No re-take option available. Students are to try their best on the
next assessment to improve their average.
70 – 79% - At Mme Duma’s discretion, student can retake an assessment one
time only and must return a signed“Retake Permission Form”. Re-teaching
and extra practice will take place by Mme Duma after-school on
Wednesdays in Room B15.
69% and below - The student must retake the assessment. Re-teaching and
extra practice will be provided by Mme Duma. The teacher will work with
the student until at least a 70% is achieved.
Students will not be allowed to re-take the following county-wide
assessments:
Midterm Exam - taken in January
Final Exam – taken in June
Communicative Performance Assessments (CPAs) – Speaking CPAs are given
every quarter and Writing CPAs are given in January and June during the
mid-term and final exams.
