Students and their families will discover all we have to offer as they take a campus tour, tour residence halls, meet faculty from the academic departments, talk with current students, and attend a variety of information sessions about academic programs, support services and student life. This program is held four Saturdays a year, from 9:00am-2:00pm. Upcoming Explore UNC Charlotte dates for the 2012-2013 academic year are: March 23, 2013 ● April 27, 2013 ● Students can make a reservation for Explore | Open House online by creating a Future 49er Web account. Registration is required for campus tours and space is limited. Students can register online via their Future 49er Web portal. FAFSA DAY *Saturday, February 23, 2013* Need Financial Aid for College? FAFSA Day is a free service provided by College Foundation of North Carolina, the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, and the State Employees’ Credit Union. Get FREE help from financial specialists and college aid professionals to complete and submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically. 9 a.m. to 12 noon (Times may vary, so check the CFNC website.) COLLEGE APPLICATIONS AND TRANSCRIPT RELEASE FORMS Please give Mrs. Pulyer ten (10) working days to process the guidance counselor portion of your college applications. Any application with a specific deadline must be turned in ten (10) working days prior to the deadline. Guidance cannot accept responsibility for late applications. If your application contains a post card to be returned to you, you are responsible for the postage. DO NOT leave applications or any part of an application on Mrs. Pulyer’s desk. You can leave it in the box on her door. No fee will be charged for transcripts sent to colleges and/or prospective employers. To have transcripts sent, all seniors must complete a transcript request form (white sheet). This form is on the school website or you can come in and see Mrs. Farley (Guidance Secretary) for one. If the college application asks for your counselor’s email address, please list Mrs. Pulyer’s - theresa_pulyer@iss.k12.nc.us - to ensure that any college requests are sent to the right place. Guidance cannot accept responsibility for any requests that are not sent directly to Mrs. Pulyer. Are you an athlete hoping to receive an athletic scholarship to college???? Remember, you must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse @ www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. The Clearinghouse evaluates your academic record to determine if you are eligible to participate at a Division I or II college as a freshmen student-athlete. Now is the time to register. Deadline: January 31st February Deadlines Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards $4,000 ($1,000 year for four years) merit-based scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks who are members in good standing. Eligibility To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must: ● Be a graduating, minority high school senior; ● Plan to attend an accredited and approved four–year institution within the United States; ● Show leadership potential; ● Demonstrate a dedication to community service; ● Present evidence of financial need; ● Be a United States citizen; ● A minimum SAT score of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT score of 22; and ● Does not possess a degree from a 2 or 4–year College when applying for the scholarship. Application Components The required components of the Jackie Robinson Foundation application are: ● A completed and submitted online application; ● One (1) letter of recommendation submitted online only SAT or ACT scores sent to the Foundation directly from the testing agencies. The Foundation’s college codes are: SAT 4248/ACT: 6570. You will need to have a copy of your SAT or ACT scores and your latest high school transcript in order to complete the questions on the online application. DeMAYO SCHOLARSHIP: For the ninth consecutive year, the Law Office of Michael A DeMayo is pleased to offer local seniors an opportunity to win scholarships to help further their education.
