August 31- September 4, 2015
Look at What We Learned Last Week!
Look at What We Are Learning This Week!
Reading: We began practicing Daily 5 routines
and took a pretest on our first skill (compare
and contrast). We began identifying strategies
to help us as we are reading.
Reading: We will be taking our Reading
Baseline on Monday. We will be practicing
comparing and contrasting characters, settings
and events within a text. We will also continue
practicing our Daily 5 routines. We will get our
Spelling words this week.
Writing: We wrote a Kite Cinquain Poem about
ourselves and created a Dream Scene about our
future goals and the accomplishments we have
already made in our lives.
Social Studies: We established our classroom
norms, rules and mission statement. We began
setting up our classroom routines and getting to
know one another. 
Science: We previewed our new vocabulary
words for the Water Cycle. We began learning
about the parts of the water cycle and set up
our first experiment to determine how sunlight
impacts evaporation.
Math: We took the Math Baseline and began
multiplying multi-digit numbers.
Our STAR Student this week:
Writing: We will be writing a story about our
adventure through the water cycle.
Science: We will be continuing to learn about
the Water Cycle. We will also be taking our
Science Baseline on Tuesday.
Math: We will be practicing multiplying multidigit numbers using various strategies
including the area model, partial products and
the standard algorithm.
