Newspaper Article Book Report
Due Monday, February 8th
January’s book report is based on a book you have read from one of
three genres: historical fiction, realistic fiction or non-fiction.
(Historical fiction is a fictional story that takes place in a time period in
the past. The setting is usually real, but the characters are made up
from the author’s imagination. Realistic fiction is a story made up with
characters and events, and the events could have happened in real life.)
Directions:
1. Choose a book to read and read it.
2. Pretend you are a newspaper reporter. You are going to report
what happened in the story by summarizing.
*Remember that reporters have to be impartial. When you tell the
story, don’t give your opinion on the character’s actions.
*Make sure your article includes the title of the book, the author, your
name, and an illustration that supports the main idea of the story.
*Your illustration should include a caption that explains what is in the
drawing.
3. Use the newspaper article planner on the back to help organize
your thoughts. Remember that an article is written in columns.
