2011- I was awarded the Presidential Metal of Freedom today. I have
come so far to get where I am today and I am so proud of myself.
Thank you to all of the people who believed in me.
1972-Im so excited my screenplay Georgia, Georgia was
produced today. I am now the first African- American to
have a feature film adapted from one of my own stories!

1934-Today a terrible thing happened to me. What’s ever worse
than that is that the man that did it was killed by 3 of my uncles.
I feel that me telling my brother has killed him. For this I am
ashamed and will not be talking for 5 years.
