PTSA Meeting
Sept 5, 2013
Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria
People Present: Amy Holmes, Donna Carman, Kellye Slaggert Twila Ryan, Barney & Jo Rowart,
Lisa VanBuhler, and Ms. Gantt.
Treasures Report: Balance August 31st, 2013: $18,301.35
New Business:
Homecoming:
Oct 18th Homecoming game against Iredell
Oct 19th: Dance semi-formal with theme: Time yet to be determined; estimating 8-11pm.
Looking at securing DJ from last year who wasn’t able to make it at the last minute given a
credit is due to the school.
Spirit Week events are as follows:
Monday: Dodge ball & PJ day
Tuesday: Hall decorations & Decade day, 8-, 70, 50, 20-30
Wednesday: Tear down & Season clothing:
Thursday, Tail gate & Wacky tacky day. Parents and siblings welcome to after school
tailgate event.
Friday: Pep rally- School colors,blue black white, gray or class t-shirts.
No Parade this year. Pep Rally at 11:00 am before first lunch on the football field; each grade in a
separate quadrant.
Food provided for homecoming court and their families while waiting to go out.
Sandy Morrow looking at tweeting events related to football/homecoming to keep students updated.
Target fundraiser: Target is holding an online voting contest for every school until Sept 21 st. For
every vote, the school will get a dollar. Ms. Gant will ask to see if teachers/students can take 5
minutes each week to vote Until Sept 21st. Will have information go out to all families through a
connect ed also.
Mrs. Bubbles: Selling the 12 dollar wash for 10$: with 5 $ going to PTSA for the Back the Cat’s
Campaign. Buy singly or at group of 5. These might also be for sale during Football Games.
Student council: 4 student council staff;. Quigly 9th Christy-10, Morris-11, Suk 12th ,
Officers for each grade are in place. Students are still able to join and must attend a weekly meeting
either before school or after school each week. Regular attendance to meetings is a requirement for
ongoing membership. Dues are nominal.
Donna Carman will attend the weekly meetings before school. Pam Siegfried expressed an interest
in attending meets also.
Student council will sell class t-shirts as a fundraiser prior to Homecoming & spirit week.
Student Council is looking at sponsoring a winter dance, for all grades along with a powder puff
football game. The idea of combining Mr. Lake Norman with this also was suggested.
Curriculum night: Thursday, Sept 26th, 6-7:30 pm. Ms. Davis will check on if we are able to
schedule Bill Kearny from 7:30- 8/8:30 and get back to PTSA so we can notify Mr. Kearny.
Amy is going to check into Mr. Brown to bring band to kick off school spirit songs. Very festive and
kids loved it during freshman academy.
Student council table: information related to Homecoming, spirit week, tailgating information with
possible Homecoming dance ticket sales
PTSA Table: school club information, game schedules, volunteer sign-up sheets, BJ’s 20$
membership information, and Mrs. Bubbles car wash’s for sale. Recruit Landscaper/master gardener
School improvement team: Ms. Gantt conveyed this group would like to have a parent
representative nominated and voted by the group to sit on the school committee. Per Pam Siegfried’s
email expressing an interest in this; she was nominated and voted to sit on this committee. Next
meeting is Oct 9th from 3:30-4:30.
Hospitality: Jennifer is in need of a total staff count along with birthdays of staff. Ms. Gantt said she
would put this information together and email the list to Kellye. Graduation committee will take care
of the teacher breakfast as Jennifer is not available graduation weekend.
Capital Campaign: BACK THE CATS is this year’s slogan. Funds will be used for general school
improvement, special events, student opportunities, landscaping outdoor & atrium area, camera to
video events in gym to be viewed on big screen tv, grants for panic button to schools, other items that
benefit the overall school, and teacher wish lists. Kick off will be during curriculum night.
LKN booster club updates: Donna Carman relayed the following where discussed at the last
meeting.
 Resurfacing tennis courts;
 Interviewing AD candidates.
 Athlete of the week will continue
 Re-surface home side of the track
 Microwaves in concession stands
 Girls basketball, tennis and track coaches needed. Oct 8th 6pm. Class rooms behind off ice.
