Word Study Homework Activities
Parents and Students,
You may select any FOUR activities from below to complete on loose leaf paper. We will collect the
HOMEWORK on Fridays and check for homework completion. If we miss school for a holiday, snow, or
etc. FOUR activities will still be required, unless we miss on a Monday. This should allow choice and
flexibility with afterschool schedules.

SORT AND RECORD ~ students sort their words according to the pattern
and then record the words as they sorted them.

SPOOKY WORDS ~ write your words three times in a spooky way

SPELLING TREES ~ students will write their spelling words starting with one
letter and add one letter each time. Example: c
ca
cat

WORD CHAINS ~ students will write one word then find a common letter to
join another word until all words are used.

HOT VOWELS ~ students will write each of their spelling words, but will
write each vowel in RED!

ILLUSTRATOR WORDS ~ students will write each spelling word and then add
an illustration of the word.

SILLY SENTENCES ~ students will write all of their spelling words in 10 silly
sentences.

TYPE EM’ ~ students will type their spelling word, print a copy, and paste into
his or her Word Study Journal.

ABC ORDER ~ students will write their spelling words in ABC order.

DICTIONARY DETECTIVE ~ Write ten of your words and look them up in the
dictionary

PRACTICE TEST ~ Have mom or dad give you a practice test. Write the
words in your word study journal and then check them.

RIDDLE ME ~ Write a riddle for each of your spelling words. Don’t forget to
add the answer to your riddles. See if your parents or siblings can guess the
answer!

YOUR CHOICE ~ If you can think of another activity to do in your
journal, go ahead and do it! Share your idea with me!
